Canon G11 Hands-On Report & Comparison with The...
Is the Canon G11 a good buy? I believe so, considering that one gets a really solid camera with decent lens, articulated LCD, manual controls, and decent image quality at low ISO. But, while the higher ISO (anything above 200) are better than its predecessor the G10, on an absolute scale they are not really acceptable to my eyes for anything except record shots and snapshots. ...

Canon Powershot G11 Sample Photos
For those interested, some sample photographs done with the Canon Powershot G11 have been published on a Japanese site. Go to:  http://cweb.canon.jp/camera/powershot/g11sp/g11sp.html Some of the shots were done at higher ISOs.  And, I must admit, I am impressed with the results.  The clarity at ISO 400 appears superb. I am duly impressed with the shot of the bottles done at ISO 800. Site...

Canon G10 may be the new Leica
So the new Canon G11 has been announced and people are looking - including me! But I have been carrying the G10 in my pocket for the past year or so and it has gotten to be a habit to grab my keys, wallet, a quarter (gotta have some cash) and the G10. Without it now I don’t feel dressed. Having a camera with you at all times is the beginning of the essence of the old Leica cameras....

World's Best Compact Camera
The S90 beats Canon’s own flagship G11 at its own game. The S90 has the same oversized sensor as the G11, but adds a faster f/2 lens, direct control rings and a bigger LCD in a smaller, lighter package for less money. So why would I want a G11? Just to carry more weight? That’s the only reason I can see, and there are guys who buy things because they weigh more. Read more: Ken...

Canon unveils successor to the PowerShot G10 The...
The G11 replaces the G10’s 14.7MP sensor with what it describes as a high sensitivity 10 MP CCD though it still uses the same 28-140mm equivalent stabilized lens. The camera also gains a tilt and swivel LCD, though the size drops to 2.8 inches. Flash sync speed increases to 1/2000th of a second and HDMI output is also added. Other features include Dual Anti-Noise System (more sensitive...

Canon G10 and Big eye pics Today a friend borrow me his Canon G10 and Fantasea Big eye. A picture says a thousand words. A New Toy I just picked up a Canon G10 to use on vacation. I’m going out to play with it later tonight. I decided I didn’t want to carry all my camera gear to the Adirondacks and the G10 seemed perfect. Hope so. At least it will save me about 80 lbs in gear on the...

The most important System Compact Cameras right...
If not for the Panasonic Lumix G1, the Canon G10 would be the most important camera in its category. Canon has taken the immensely popular G9 and given it just enough tweaks to make it attractive not just to amateurs with big-camera ambitions, but for street photographers and pros looking for a small knock-around camera as wel. It’s a system camera because it accepts hot-shoe flash units as...

Let’s face it
Yes there is nothing better than a DSLR when it comes to shooting photos, but let’s face it, whether you’re a pro or not, you don’t always carry a DLSR, meaning that you may loose many possible shots that only the “right time, right place” can provide you… So the question remains, which compact camera you to get to be “always ready”, and this is why Canon made...

N[G10] x 2.28 = N[E-3]
Anyone with two different cameras and known sensor sizes can do this test and see it for himself. I don’t have any full frame camera, but I have a Canon G10 and an Olympus E-3. The Canon G10 has a sensor size of 7.6 x 5.7mm, an area of 0.43cm² and against the full frame cameras with 36 x 24mm sensors it has a crop factor of 4.6x. The Olympus E-3 has a sensor size of 17.3x13mm which gives an area...

Canon G10 Underwater Goodness
The new Canon G10 was performing miraculously. I can’t believe how good this camera is. I’m getting shots that were not possible before. The fun just keeps on rolling with the new Canon G10 and it’s buddy, the WP-DC28 underwater housing. Certain types of shots seem to come out better, and I’m at a loss to find a technical explanation. All I can say is, “It just works.” See more:...

Shooting RAW - it’s Easy! The Canon Powershot G10 has the capability to save the photos you shoot as JPG, RAW, or both at the same time. A lot of G10 users don’t know what RAW is and why you would want to shoot with it. For an explanation of what RAW is and the pros and cons of using RAW instead of JPG, I encourage you read a layman’s argument for shooting RAW and a more...

I really do love that little camera!
I have really been enjoying using the my new Canon G10 camera since I bought it a few weeks ago. As it is only a point and shoot camera, I tend to take it most places with me and I’m certainly enjoying taking more photographs for pleasure again. These photographs were each taken in RAW and processed in Lightroom. More shots: Neil Redfern

Guilty as charged. It’s true, I took most of the photographs in this article with my Canon PowerShot G10 compact camera, including the opening photograph of a rusting truck. The G10 lets you go hog wild
If you have fun experimenting with F-stops and shutter speeds, and diddling with exposure controls, the G10 lets you go hog wild. I dug deep in the manual and found that the G10 has more settings than my SLR. For instance, there’s a handy Exposure Compensation dial–plus and minus two stops in 1/3 increments; there’s also a quick way to adjust ISO sensitivity. (Higher ISO settings let you snap...

The G10 is an odd little tyke
I was both pleased and disappointed with the operation of this camera and the resultant images. Face detection seemed to work only on people standing relatively still. When I tried focusing on the soccer players in action, I had as many misses as hits. But the worst part was the shutter lag. It was obvious. Optical performance was very good, with the only apparent distortion at the wide end–and...

The common thread seems to be that readers are looking for a small camera. They tire of lugging around a DSLR and lenses. They want the freedom that a small camera can provide. And they want quality images. I want those things too. And frankly, there is still not a camera on the market today that meets all my needs. Camera manufacturers give me incredible cameras and lenses, but with the burden...

Comparing the Panasonic LX3, Canon G10 and Ricoh...
The three cameras in this article, Panasonic LX3, Canon G10, & Ricoh GX 200, are all on the top of many people’s “current best prosumer camera” and “cameras I’m interested in” lists. Quite frankly, I heartily agree. Particularly for those DSLR and other advanced users who’s “want” list looks like the one above. Does that mean users coming from a p&s camera won’t be as well suited to these...

G10 shots I couldn’t get with the E-P1 (or the LX3) I took photos last night during a performance of HEY MARILYN, a musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. I muted all the G10’s sounds and turned off the LCD, and used the...

The G10 will be quite an amazing landscape camera
I have had a chance to run some more tests with my G10 and I am now liking the results even more. I have found that (with my copy of the G10 anyway) being careful to shoot at the lens’ “sweet-spot” makes ALL the difference in the world to this camera. Shooting at the sweet-spot means a MUCH sharper file from the get go. This results in less post process (sharpening) being...

Totally shocked with the output of the G10
I’ve heard only the best things about it and it certainly lives up to its reviews. It is not in anyway a replacement for the larger SLRs, but works great for being compact, 100percent controllable and awesome all around. For the shot of Gabe and I, I put a 580exII in the hotshoe of the G10 and aimed it up at the ceiling - iso 80 with fantastic results. See more: Virginia Wedding...

I can now always have a camera with me
DSLRs are excellent in terms of image quality but you can’t exactly keep one in your coat pocket! So the Canon G10 will be great for that. While remaining impartial to the other great compacts out there at the moment, it’s almost impossible not to notice the fierce competition between this new PowerShot G10 and the Panasonic LX3.  In this case, Canon wins the day when it comes to usability, but Panasonic has produced a camera capable of taking sharper photos and HD video. Bicycling and photography: Lumix LX3 vs. G10
Both the LX3 and G10 are great cameras! Great AND flawed in the exactly opposite ways which makes me wonder if there’s some strange conspiracy going on to make you buy both. The LX3 is lighter and more pocketable. The G10 has a great body design with intuitive manual controls but a sort of ho-hum lens. The Lumix LX3 has a good body but mediocre controls but a great lens. Time lapse photography with a Canon G10
Together (intervalometer Yongnuo MC-36b) with the G10 cam it’s a great little gadget: it’s small, lightweight, and for time lapse photography it’s easier to carry a smaller camera like the Canon G10 than a large DSLR such as my Nikon D3. Especially for hiking in the mountains. One more plus: there are no dust spots on the Canon G10 sensor – it’s a pain when you discover spots on 720 time...

G10 & Canon Speedlite 270EX
Had the Canon G10 for a week now and just picked up the Canon Speedlite 270EX two days ago.  Comparing it with my Panasonic Lumix LX3, the Canon G10 shoot some real nice pics at ISO80, but above that, it simply is no match with the Lumix LX3.  Still love the dedicated aspect change button on the Lumix LX3 but all in all the dials on the Canon G10 is much more easier for access and the size fits a...

G10 and bokeh
I mentioned that photography professionals aren’t in exact agreement as to what constitutes good bokeh. If we limit the definition of bokeh to out-of-focus backgrounds that help draw the eyes to the subject then, yes, the G10 is very much capable of creating blurry backgrounds. In macro mode, the leaves surrounding the zinnia flower above were sufficiently blurred to send the visual message that...

Colors really off compared to G10’s display When I transfer my photos to my MacBook (Intel, 10.5) they don’t look anything like they do on the G10’s display. All is not perfect with the G10 but then nothing...
The Canon G10 is somewhat dystopian in its looks. Reminiscent of the classic cameras seen throughout the 1980’s, its jet black angular form is endemic of the decade in which the winds of change swept across the globe and a real cowboy ran the world for a few years. The LX3, for all its sheer brilliance was let down by the awkward manual control of which being an extreme finger...

Digiscoping with the Canon Powershot G10 I finally got hold of the G10 to try it for digiscoping. It needs a long eye relief eyepiece so the Kowa 25x LER works reasonably well, although you need to be able to slide the camera in and out as you zoom the lens. The best cameras for summer 2009 photography
Panasonic LX-3 This camera has been in heavy competition with the Canon G10. The main advantages this camera has over the Canon is a wider lens and HD video mode and it is a bit smaller than the G10. While it doesn’t have the reach of those superzooms (in fact the zoom is only 2.5x) you’ll take good photos with its 10MP sensor and a lens that’s fast enough at F2. In fact, LX-3 users have been...
