Digiscoping with the Canon Powershot G10
I finally got hold of the G10 to try it for digiscoping. It needs a long eye relief eyepiece so the Kowa 25x LER works reasonably well, although you need to be able to slide the camera in and out as you zoom the lens. A very good camera with lot’s of features, including RAW, but I’m sure most people know about it
Hello all to those that have the G10, i was interested in this camera, but a question about noise reading the review here on Dpr it gave a recommend and said noise was ok up to 200. What do you lot think of the G10 and do you think the noise is that bad
Potential G10 Buyer… Need your advice
I’ve been reading through the posts here and have seen some concerns that stand out i.e. 1) chromatic aberrations 2) focus difficulty (this was mentioned by just one person so may have been user difficulty and not so much a camera malfunction) 3) and I noticed that it is the CCD image censor vs. CMOS. Now, correct me if I am wrong but in my research I’ve gathered that as long as the size of the image sensor is the same no # of pixels will really matter i.e. 7mp or 10mp on a 1/1.7-inch it’s just mashing more pixels onto the same size which in the end has no impact on image quality.
Some of my first pics taken with the G10.
Are you sending your G10 in for repair?
Even if you don’t know if it’s defective? What can it hurt? Mine falls in the s/n range of those which could possibly have the line issue. Will Canon TS look for the defect and fix it along with other problems that may exist (as some have reported) or could new problems (dust, bad reassembly) be induced during a stripdown?
Canon G10 without serial number! Is a cheap Chinese knock-off
I received a call by phone by Canon Europe, they ask me every detail on this matter and I sent them the pictures to demonstrate the missing serial number, here the result: They say it’s impossible to sell a camera without serial number, the label on the bottom of the camera looks like handled (keeping out the transparent film on the label the numbers disappear) the sticher on the box was removed and… surprise, the number of bar code printed on the box is for a product for NO European Market but for Asia
Just to see how good the G10 would be with large prints, I sent these two to Mpix, to make 16 X24 BW. Wow! They’re plenty sharp and clear, and it’s hard to imagine a dslr doing much better, maybe short of a 5dMarkII. Considerably better than the Nikon D40x, which I gave to my daughter. So can a G10 deliver large prints at superb quality. Yes it can. I know these were outside in good light, but I have had good results indoors at 400 and not too bad at 800. More important I got a 430 EX II which I use indoors whenever circumstances allow. That closes any gap that might exist, provides much better light than the harsher direct on-camera flash, and doesn’t bother the subjects nearly as much. Translated, it’s a much more acceptable flash in social situations. One more benefit of the G10. I don’t take too many action shots, but I do photograph classical music and modern dance concerts, where silence is critical. You can’t do that with a dslr. I’m sold on this camera.
Best aperture for G10 landscapes
I just purchased a Canon G10 to use while I am traveling. I have never seen a camera where the minimum aperture is f8. I don’t have time on this trip to test the camera, and so am wondering what is the best aperture to use for maximum resolution. I will be shooting in manual mode on a tripod with remote release.
G10 shoot with RAW or Highest quality JPEG?
I use Aperture for most of my editing. Will pictures I first bring into Aperture look better shot as a JPEG or in RAW mode? Or do RAW files only look better after they are processed? Will adjusting exposure, highlights, shadows, etc…on a RAW file look better than doing the same adjustments on a JPEG? Can folks actually tell the difference?
Lensmate Adapter With G10 RAW Images?
I am purchasing the G10 in a couple of weeks. After purchasing the A630 a couple of years ago, I initially had problems with pictures of mountain lakes. Purchasing the Lensmate adapter, along with a polarizer filter, fixed this problem. Is such an adapter really necessary for the G10 since you have the ability to take pictures in RAW format? I do not know much about RAW just yet, but I thought that shooting in such a format would allow me to edit/process the data in a program like Photoshop, applying a polorizer effect digitally??? Sorry if this is a stupid question here, but I’m looking at the prices of the Lensmate adapters and kind of doing a second take.
So do these two play well together? I see on the utility menu it list the G10 as a camera you can choose but the web site doesn’t list it. I have been playing with this tonight and I get one flash out of it and then nothing. The test button fires the flash but like I said after the first camera fire it won’t flash again on shutter activation.
LX3’s 24-60 mm or G10’s 28-140 mm
I haven’t got LX3 yet but I tend to it. The last question is about the Lens, I love F2,0-2.8 but i am not sure with 24-60 mm. Do 60 mm cover the things? (i like to take a portrait, architecture and snapshot)
