Colors really off compared to G10’s display
When I transfer my photos to my MacBook (Intel, 10.5) they don’t look anything like they do on the G10’s display. They look really low contrast and the colors are utterly dull on my computer’s display. I understand that there’s going to be a difference between the camera’s display and my laptop’s, but this seems really off. And the colors match on my older Canon point & shoot (which also uses sRGB IEC61966-2.1), and my Samsung and D80 as well.
G10 RAW - good alternative to SLR?
Whilst it is more than I really want to spend, would the raw functionality of the G10 fit the bill after all? Not sure if the image quality is still down to sensor size etc or the jpg processing?
G10 Panorama advice / tutorial requested
Having just returned from a skiing holiday in which I had an accident on day 1 and was unable to ski for the rest of the hol, I have 100’s of photos taken using my G10 as that’s what I did instead of skiing. My problem is that I took a number of sequences of photos in the hope that I could turn them into panoramas (hand held). With no idea how to do this I just took the sequece in full manual mode, so as to set the same exposure for all photos.
New Class 10 SDHC card for G10?
Just read that Panasonic has released a new Class 10 SDHC card, speed something like 22 MB/sec. I’m shooting a G10. Question is how can I determine the max read/write speed of my camera, or any camera for that matter. Example: If the max r/w speed of the camera is 15 MB/sec I’m wasting money buying the new class 10 cards. I wrote Canon about this a short time ago. Their response was……..lets just say lacking! They concentrated on the download speed from camera to computer. That’s important but internal camera read/write speed is to me much more important. If it takes, say, five seconds to download from camera card to computer it’s a bummer, but I can live with it. If it takes five seconds for the camera to record every shot on the card it’s the end of the world!
I have a G10 and pondering what, if any, benefit is there with getting faster SD cards? I presently have a class 6 card (30mb/sec), but I’d like to know what is the PHYSICAL CAMERA’S max write rate? For instance, if the camera has a TOP write speed of 15mb/sec, then wouldn’t I be better off saving my money and get a card that writes at that speed? Also, is there a difference between read and write speed with the G10 and would faster SD cards benefit with either.
G10 video surprise: vertical video
if you start shooting video on a vertical position… the video when played back it will remain vertical and will not be automatically be turned horizontal… I am not sure if I have some setting that makes it that way…but I like it… …of course there will be black bands on left and right of your TV— …why do this? because sometimes when shooting video— I keep forgetting to position the camera horizontally especially when I am trying to shoot my subject in portrait position…
Are you glad you upgraded from G9 to G10?
I bought the G9 almost a year ago and have been wondering if I made a mistake and should have waited for the G10. So the question is are you happy you made the upgrade. I am very happy with the G9’s performance but I must admit I am intriqued by the postings here on DPR. I must admit I am tempted but is it really worth it?
I nicked the G10 lens, is it a problem?
It looks like I nicked the outer lens on the G10, but I don’t see any problems on the images. Should I worry, or is that first piece of glass nothing more than a protective piece, and not really part of the lens?
How to make G10 into a perfect compact camera
Having played with my G10 for a while, I believe there is a way to make it a nearly perfect compact camera: 1. EVF with all the information visible on the screen (in bright sun it’s still nearly useless) 2. Use the same adjustment wheels like on higher-grade Nikons instead of the dinky wheel around around another multi-function wheel on the back. I caught myself today flipping through flash modes instead of adjusting shutter time 3. Bring back articulated LCD
squeezing 14mp on small sensor, g10, i want honest answers
ll the critics and forums about g10, always going on about the g10 having too many mega pixles on its sensor, and that the g9 is better look enough rubbish, i wana purchace a g10, for outdoor aerial use only. noise isnt a factor tell me is it a good camera, does it perform? only actually owners please advise :)
I’ve grown to really love my Canon G10 but I despise the harsh on-camera flash. What is a good choice for a bounce-capable Canon hot shoe flash? Opinions on the Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash? Good choice? Too much?
Need some sunshine now, oh well.
$25 strobe on a pole/G10 Monopod?
Here’s a $10 item from Wal-Mart sure to sell out fast to Strobists. It’s made and designed by Remington as a gun monopod rest with a u-shaped top to support the front stock With a little modification, you can turn it into a telescoping aluminum pole suitable as a monopod or to hold a strobe way beyond arm’s length. I don’t see it listed online at Walmart or Remington, but purchased it at my local store. I see one at eBay for $20 shipped. It’s a four section black aluminum pole with lever locks. Closed, its about 2’ long and extends to about 5’. To use as a monopod, unscrew the gun rest and add a small Giotto’s ballhead ($15 from B&H). Great lightweight rig for the G10. The 3/8” bottom section is a little whippy, but it will do in a pinch. You can also pull out the bottom pointy thing with a pair of vicegrips (Don’t twist). A 1/4 x 20 stud will screw in nicely, leaving about 1/2” extended. Add a nut to gently tighten it down. You can screw the pointy thing back on, or add another one of those Giotto’s ballhead and a cold shoe for your flash. Very cool, very light, small and will go anywhere. A pony clamp or ball bungie will allow you to attach it to nearly anything in the field, or you could even add an angle bracket so you can push it into soft soil with your foot!
G10 - ‘ND’ shots at Rainforest Cafe (Disney’s AK)
here’s a few shots I took using the built-in ND filter (except the last bar shot) … all taken handheld - outside shots were both taken at 1/5s ISO80, inside ‘Rescue the Rainforest’ shots were taken at 1s/ISO200 and bar shot at 1/8s ISO200. Some PP done on these.
Well, I just got a 270EX flash unit for my G10 and I think it is going to be a perfect match for it! When you put the flash on 100% output, look out! It really really lights up the place! Only 2 double A batteries too! :) One test pic of my cat using 90 deg bounce, about 50% output, hand held.
