Forums about G10 #10
I’ve got my daughter’s ballet dress rehearsal coming up this week and a new to me G10. The rehearsal is the only option to take on stage shots of the dancers. Of course, no flash allowed. So - since i pretty much have one shot at this, can anyone give me any tips for this new camera as far as setup so I can be sure to get some keepers.
Before I purchased my G10 I knew very little about photography. When I started researching cameras I realized that my budget of $500 CAD gave me two choices: a low end DSLR or a high end compact. I purchased a Canon G10. At the time I didn’t realize what a smart purchase this was. I realize now that learning on a compact is vastly superior to learning on a DSLR. Compacts have an attribute to which no DSLR compares: portability. I carry my G10 everywhere and am constantly using and learning from it.
Hi everyone, this morning I had my first chance to have a proper go with my G10. What can I say… If you had any doubts about getting one don’t. After seeing the work of others here I am glad I did. Here are a few shots.
G10 direct filter mount; need your thoughts
I’m strongly inclined to get a G10 after a lot of research. One of the negatives is the lack of filter threads on the lens itself. I am not enamored with the tube solution Canon provides (and lensmate.com). I’d like to either semi-permanently or permanently attach a ring to the lens. probably by gluing. Say a 52 to 58 step up or similar, to which 58mm filters could be attached. I have found nothing online about anyone doing this. Does it seem reasonable?
So Canon should have no excuse to Not make a big sensor compact in a G10 -sized body now!
Wondering if anybody who shoots RAW has actually taken a picture on RAW + JPEG version then edited both pictures exactly the same. I did that and in addition I applied some RAW fine tuning as Aperture allows on the RAW image and I canno’t tell on the screen a difference. Perhaps if I blew it up to the size of a poster I could but I simply don’t see the difference. Is it me? Am I missing something?
I’m in the market for a high end compact as back up to my DSLRs I’ve basically been looking at the Panasonic LX3 and Canon G10. I must say that I love the G10, played with my friends, shot a few images with it and on first impression seems to be more intuitive than the LX3. However :-(
So, now that we have all been completely blown away by the D700… What “point and shoot” or “pocket” camera do you use when it just isn’t feasible to carry around your DSLR and equipment?
Can i ask, are people here happy with their camera? I am trying to decide between the Canon G10 and the Lumix LX3. Has the Canon reached your expectations, do you have any qualms with it?
I notice in another forum link about the G10 and Raw , someone talked about turning the sharpening effect on the G10 ‘OFF” ? How is this done? Also is it possible to change the colour space from sRGB to Adobe RGB98? The Canon G10 user guide has no info!
G10 with nikon WC-E75 wide angle
Hi guys, new to the board and wanted to say hi and report that thanks to lens mate the Nikon wide angle converter works great on my G10. the corners are a tad soft but that was expected. i will post some pics as soon as i can.
New Canon G10 does Rock Hard Macro Shots
Tonight I tried some Macro shots of a few from my Agate and Rock collection. Most of these are Agate (Chalcedony), with some Rock Crystal and a Meteorite. Overall I am pleased with these quick results. These are Jpegs, I diffused the on board flash with a facial tissue folded up and I used a Jobi Gorilla Pod and Manual Focus. The shots are lightly processed in DPP and PS7 which is where I did the easy frame backgrounds.
I purchased Dennis Curtain’s G10 Short Course and read it cover to cover. I’ve been pleased shooting JPEG fine, Large Files etc. and have been pleased with Canon’s noise reduction scheme, color, clarity etc. I purchased a Leica M8 and shot in RAW (DNG format)+Jpeg, and the extreme difference in quality in favor of the DNG vs. the JPEG prompted me to try it on the Canon G10. Well, I just configured the G10 the other day to shoot RAW+JPEG, and the difference between RAW and the JPEG just blew me away.
Buying advice for beginner. sx 110 or G10?
I am looking for a camera to use on a long holiday to Europe. After speaking with several people and reading lots of reviews, I’ve narrowed my choices down to the sx 110 and the G10, both of which seem to fit my criteria, but the G 10 is a lot more expensive.
I have a hotshoe mounted spirit level I use for doing multi row panos with my G10.The problem is if I push the level further into the hotshoe than pictured, it trips the switch that makes the camera think it has an external flash attached.
