This camera has much more to like about it than NOT to like
What I love about the Canon Powershot G10:
- I am in love with the design and build of this camera. Looks like a classic and feels like one as well. You do not see many compact with this look and feel.
- Manual controls via DIALS. YES. I am a manual dial kind of man and love to be able to set my camera with dials on the camera. I hate having to dig through the menus to set the ISO, shutter, etc.
- The LCD is BIG and BEAUTIFUL.
- It has a viewfinder! I never used it but it is good to know it is there as an option (Well, you should give it a try… - Robert)
- Tons of customizable features with color and filters in the camera.
- It has an option for RAW shooting, UNLIKE the Sony HX1
- Has macro!
- Face detection is here and works as advertised. Whenever a face was in the frame, the focus box followed the face.

What I do NOT love about the Canon Powershot G10:
- Higher ISO could be better (samples later in the review)
- While it has RAW as an option, why no RAW and JPEG? (well, actually it has - Robert)
- The 4:3 aspect ration of the images. I prefer 3:2 though it does have a 16X9 option.
After it was all said and done though, I do prefer my little Leica D-Lux 4 to this Canon G10. That is most likely because I am used to that camera, its files, and its features. But let’s keep it real. The G10 is $499. The D-Lux 4 is $699. That is a $200 savings with the G10.
Again, my main problem with the G10 is its low light capability. Mainly, the slower lens. If it has a fast F2 lens and a little bit better high ISO performance it would be THE best compact on the market. To me, that title still goes to the Leica D-Lux 4.
