G10 shots I couldn’t get with the E-P1 (or the LX3)

I took photos last night during a performance of HEY MARILYN, a musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. I know the composer and the director, and they were happy to have me take the photos, but it had to be done in a way that would not disturb other audience members. I muted all the G10’s sounds and turned off the LCD, and used the optical viewfinder to frame the shots. This made the picture-taking very unobtrusive. With the E-P1 (which, as it turned out, I had a look out in a camera store just before going to the theater) and the LX3, the lack of viewer other than the LCD is a serious limitation in this sort of situation. The only shot that I could have takes using the LCD would have been during the curtain call—by which time it doesn’t matter.

G10 Drop test

So, I was out shooting some landscapes on the coast with the G10 and as my cold fingers fumbled it, I dropped it 3 feet onto jagged rocks (covered with barnacles for good measure). My heart stopped beating for a split second as I watched it bounce about 3 times and settle on the sand. I powered it up again and got on with the shootingemoticon - smile

Here’s why I like the Canon G10

Shot at 1/500th f8. You can sync this camera with non dedicated flashes up to 1/2000th of a second! Wow! Shot with a profoto 600b battery powered strobe pack and an umbrella.

Is there a clear winner LX3 or G-10?

I have owned both in the past and I liked both but to be truthful never owned one long enough to come to my own conclusion. So I am interested in the peoples thoughts who have owned both? I myself lean towards the G-10 because it has more reach and it’s so pretty LOL

A cautionary tale…

You’ve probably figured out I’m new to photography as well as to the G10. I had a Useful Learning Experience this week… Last week I shot this photograph for the panorama challenge. I did it in a real hurry, with very little time to spare and the camera’s battery warning light flashing at me. I didn’t use a tripod and I only took one set of photographs to stitch into a panorama, before deciding it probably wouldn’t work anyway because of all the pillars. I stitched it together when I got home, and it turned out surprisingly well - but with another photographer’s lighting kit and a random student in shot.

Cathedral shot

Was in Lincoln this weekend and had a wee look in the Cathedral (you’ve got to if you visit Lincoln, it’s in the rules). It’s where the Da Vinci Code was filmed (St Pauls wouldn’t let them in), and is a remarkably impressive building. Does this capture that, and does it stand up as an interesting photo? Should I have framed at a lesser angle and tried to capture someone in the aisle (as opposed to waiting for a clear shot)?

G10 Shots

Picked up a G10 last Friday. I have to say I am impressed with this little camera so far.Even at higher ISO the images are useable. and it’s much easier to carry around at a club than a dSLR

LX3 vs G10 - shutter lag

Ok, so I get it, the Panasonic LX3 has a faster lens, the pixel size on the sensor is bigger, it has better performance in low light, yadda, yadda. But I’m looking at the reviews for the LX3 and for the Canon G10. The image quality difference at high ISO is not that gigantic. Yes, the G10 shows a bit more noise, and it reduces the effective resolution at high ISO. But then there’s a big difference between the two: Full-press Lag (0->S2). G10: 0.2 sec LX3: 0.9 sec

LX3 to a canon

i’m an owner of a panasonic lx3. for some reason or another i’m getting abit frustrated when trying to shot my twin 15 month old girls. i find i’m getting to many blur pics to sharp ones. i also find when using the flash i feel it out blows the pic. i know i can change the flash output, but i’m not going to do it on every pic i take. this is all indoors by the way.

G10 videos. Pls help

A good customer just asked me to do some little videos for Youtube. I have never ever made a video other than just shooting with my G10 but never edit them or anything. The videos would be shooting a few interviews of people just sitting comfortably and mixing them with slides shows while keeping audio intermixed. A little music too and a few unfancy texts. Can someone help me where can I find a website to help me start with this little project. Thanks so much in advance.

G10 memory performance

I’m using the SD Ultra 8Gb chip in my G10. It is SLLLLOOOOWWW to process a shot. I know the Ultra is itself slow from testing in my 5DMkII. The Question: Is it the camera or will it benefit from upgrading and buying the Extreme III or IV?
It seems that you are using ad blocking software. Just like me.

However I tend to disbable it for small blogs like this one. If you would like to help me keep it alive, please disable Adblock Plus and refresh (CTRL + F5) to view this page and show adverts from this site.

Thank you!
